Weatherford College honors GISD teacher

November 14, 2012

Oak Woods School first-grade teacher Kristen Thigpen will be among several area teachers recognized on Jan. 25 at the Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers, which is part of Weatherford College.

During the 2011-12 school year, Thigpen was named the district’s Elementary Teacher of the Year.

In its 17th year, the Harvey Academy honors exemplary teachers in this region. It is named in memory of a former Weatherford College professor who was highly regarded among his peers.

Each teacher will receive a medallion and plaque, and each participating school district also will be presented an updated perpetual plaque on which the annual honoree from that district is added.

Recent Granbury ISD honorees have been Deborah Ottaway, second-grade teacher at Mambrino School; Kristie Berryman, seventh-grade language arts teacher at Granbury Middle School (now assistant principal at Acton Middle School); Chrissie Percifull, former sixth-grade language arts teacher at GMS; Terry Keith, math teacher at STARS Accelerated High School; Melanie McBride, former kindergarten teacher at Acton Elementary School; and Connie Youngblood, former science teacher at AMS.
