Stowaways state champs at danceline contest

The Granbury High Stowaways dance and drill team shined at the Danceline Classic State Championship at Weatherford High School. The girls won state grand champion honors. The Stowaways are led by captain Izzy Woods, first lieutenant Brandye Johnson and sophomore lieutenant Sarah Hayner.

The Stowaways dance and drill team at Granbury High School won state grand champion honors at the Danceline Classic State Championship last Saturday at Weatherford High School.

The girls placed first in both pom and military routines, and won the Danceline gold for scoring 95 or above on all three dances.

Officers earned sweepstakes and placed first for their modern, jazz and lyrical routines.

On an individual basis, captain Izzy Woods received the Anita Jefferson Conley Recognition of Excellence Award for the second year in a row. The award recognizes her integrity, hard work and extra dedication to the team.

In addition, Katie Leonard placed fourth for her solo dance and placed second in toe touches.

At the North Texas Regional Dance Team Championship on Feb. 9 in Forney, the girls won grand champion, sweepstakes, showmanship award and overall medium team. They also earned first-place honors for their military and open dance routines. Officers also won sweepstakes and placed first with a modern dance.

The Stowaways are led by captain Izzy Woods, first lieutenant Brandye Johnson and sophomore lieutenant Sarah Hayner. Other members are Lynne Bell, Audrey Gandy, Jenna Lane, Angela Lawson, Katie Leonard, Annabeth Lewis, Taylor Minyard, Gabby Munoz, Gina Paolini, Jade Richardson, Statia Sokol, Libby Stone and Taylor Yates.
