Guinness officially names Welch record holder

It’s been a year since Granbury High School student Cody Welch did 44 consecutive back handsprings at the Homecoming football game on Oct. 26, 2012.

But Guinness World Records finally made him official world record holder.

Guinness confirmed to the GHS sophomore on recently that he achieved the world record for “most consecutive handsprings (male).”

“We would like to congratulate you on your record-breaking achievement,” officials said in the email confirmation. “You are officially amazing.”

Then a freshman member of the Crossland Ninth Grade Center cheer squad, Welch completed the handsprings prior to the Granbury-Trimble Tech football game. He is currently the Pirate mascot for the GHS cheerleaders.

Welch has attended Gym-Kat Sport Center for the last several years and also has competed at the National Junior Olympics for tumbling and trampoline.
