A new set of drum majors will lead the Granbury High School Pirate Band this coming school year.
Senior Ashleen Atchue is the head drum major and will be assisted by senior Chase Rogers and junior Alissa Jillson. Atchue was a drum major last school year.
The trio, along with color guard captain Cheyenne Redden, attended a leadership camp at the University of Texas at Arlington in late June.
Also serving in band leadership positions are drumline captain Chandler Chiappe and section leaders Andrew Collins (trumpet), Jocelyn Espinoza (flute), Jessica Garza (French horn), Jacob Garza (tuba), Cameron Hastings (saxophone), Nolan Rendeiro (baritone), McKenzie Swaim (trombone) and Rayne White (clarinet).
This year’s marching show “We the Living” will feature “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Gabriel Faure, “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” by Benjamin Britten, “The Farewell and Spectrum of the Sky” by Break the Reality, and some original material by William Pitt.
The band will have a chance to advance to the state marching contest this year, as Class 4A schools are eligible in odd-numbered years. The marching ensemble will compete at two invitational competitions – Sept. 28 in Mansfield and Oct. 12 in Aledo – before the University Interscholastic League regional marching contest Oct. 19 in Burleson.
In addition, the drumline expects to participate at competitive events in Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Flower Mound again this year.
