Granbury High School took top honors in four events at the first invitational University Interscholastic League (UIL) academic meet of the season.
The UIL team traveled to Joshua last Saturday.
The teams scored first-place wins in:
Accounting (individual and team), editorial writing and feature writing.
The competing students received the following recognitions:

Editorial Writing: Caitlyn Thatcher, first; Samantha Linton, third; Austin Frankin, fifth; Paige Tull, sixth.
Feature Writing: Hailey Caddell, first.
Headline Writing: Paige Tull, fourth; Hailey Caddell, fifth.
Literary Criticism: Austin Franklin, sixth.
News Writing: Paige Tull, third.
Number Sense (Team): Austin Akerley, Madison Miller, Alexis Torres, second.
Number Sense (Individual): Austin Akerley, fifth; Madison Miller, sixth.
Ready Writing: Austin Franklin, fifth; Samantha Linton, sixth.
Science: Charles Wallace, fourth.
Social Studies (Team): Hailey Bendewald, Yazmin Melendez, Evangelina Oviedo, Samuel Pixley, Jack Wiley, second.
Social Studies (Individual): Evangelina Oviedo, third.
Last school year, the accounting team – then composed of Quade Gibson, Connor Hammond, Kyle Shanahan, and Oviedo – won the school’s third straight Class 4A state championship.
The school’s UIL team members will be participating in several invitational meets prior to the district competition next spring.
