GHS valedictorian relates to tornado victims’ struggles

June 5, 2013

Granbury High School valedictorian Alyssa Tigner told her classmates at Friday’s graduation that things won’t always go as pleasant as they would like.

She knows.

Her mother, Patricia Tigner, died when Alyssa was a freshman.

Patricia was only 56.

Alyssa, however, rebounded with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. She said she remembered things her mom had told her.

Choking back tears, Alyssa said she hurt after her mother’s passing, but knows she wasn’t the only one, referring to the victims from the May 15 tornado that hit Rancho Brazos and other areas.

At least three Granbury students graduated with injuries from the storm. Reportedly, a relative of another was killed in the tornado, and other students’ homes were damaged.

Alyssa received heartfelt applause from classmates and the audience.

The ceremony was held at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
