GHS juniors begin leadership program

Several Granbury High School juniors attended a team building retreat on Sept. 12 at the Riverbend Retreat Center in Glen Rose. The group is the new class for the Junior Leadership Granbury program.

Sponsored by Leadership Granbury, the program is designed to create an awareness of community resources and needs, enhance leadership skills and help identify future leaders.

The students will meet monthly through May 2014 with sessions focusing on various topics including visiting with city and county leaders, visiting local businesses, meeting with school officials and learning about the services offered by local charities. The classes offer learning opportunities and challenge students to become actively involved in building a better tomorrow in Granbury.

Students in the program are Austin Akerley, Morgan Allen, Taelyn Beadle, Trace Chiappe, Harper Clements, Alexander Clugston, BreAnne Daly, Hunter Dowell, Jacqueline Espinosa, Susana Espinosa, Elizabeth Espinoza, Isabella Espinoza, Adam Felan, Caroline Forrest, Justin Jackson, Tyler Johnson, Kellan Jones, Jennifer Krieg, Melaine Lively-Adams, Nikolai Press, James Record, Cole Rezsofi, Jade Richardson, Hannah Roberts, Jacob Rose, Nick Sandelin, Michael Schmelz, Shelby Shade, Noah Smith, Emily Stafford, Katherine Stipp, Whitley Tipton, Mariah Villa, Richard Vyce, Hannah West and Skylar Woodward.

Leading the group are Lakeside Baptist Church missions minister Shelley DeBusk, retired American Airlines pilot Rick Huber and city of Granbury administrative assistant Heather Juarez. GHS sponsors are assistant principal Tammy Clark and teacher David Winkleman.
