GHS claims 3 top places at Midland Lee speech

Granbury High School speech team members Astrid Avila, Cole Meisner and Rachael Rodgers earned first-place trophies at Midland Lee High School speech and debate tournament last Saturday.

The showing helped Rodgers advance to the Texas Forensic Association state tournament in the spring.

Ridglea Willard, Avila and Meisner earned state-qualifying points.

Those participating in the Midland Lee tourney received the following recognition:

Congressional debate: Ridglea Willard, fourth; Astrid Avila, fifth.

Domestic extemporaneous speaking: Colten Meisner, first; Rachael Rodgers, seventh.

Impromptu speaking: Astrid Avila, first.

Lincoln-Douglas debate: Rachael Rodgers, first; Colten Meisner, semifinalist.

Also competing were Brenda Cortes in congressional debate and domestic extemporaneous speaking; Charlie Little in Lincoln-Douglas debate and foreign extemporaneous speaking; Alicia Mundhenk in domestic extemporaneous speaking; Cassandra Trevino in prose interpretation; and Alyssa Vermillion in domestic extemporaneous speaking.
