Granbury FFA students picked up several awards at the Area VIII awards banquet held recently in Waco.
After an extremely successful year, the local FFA chapter received several proficiency awards, the Superior Chapter award, the National Gold level award and the Golden Horizon award. The area banquet follows the Granbury students receiving several other honors at the state convention in July.
“This year’s officer group has set its sights on the national FFA convention and has hopes of reaching the National Gold level status by this time next year,” commented sponsor Nate Newton.
The students are hosting an annual dinner and auction on Thursday, Oct. 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Granbury High School cafeteria.
Tickets are $25 and are valid for two persons to the barbecue dinner. The tickets are on sale now, and only 450 total tickets will be sold.
In addition to a silent auction, there will be two big door prizes – a smoker trailer and a 6 x 10 utility trailer.
Proceeds will benefit the FFA, which makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education, FFA sponsors say. The program is part of a three-part model of education that consists of classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experiences and the FFA. The student organization provides members the opportunity for leadership experience and competitions, scholarships and personal opportunities for involvement.
