Eight GHS band members have chance for state band

Twelve Granbury High School Pirate Band members were selected for the All-Region Band during tryouts held during the week of Dec. 3.

Eight are advancing to the area auditions for a chance to make the All-State Band.

The region tryouts for TMEA Region 7 were held during two phases, with the first on Dec. 3 at Aledo High School. The second phase, which also included ninth graders, was held on Dec. 7 at Fort Worth Paschal High School. The region is composed of schools in Fort Worth and extends west to Brownwood and Brady.

GHS students qualifying for the region band were: Peyton Bloodgood, trumpet; Chandler Chiappe, percussion; Cameron Hastings, alto saxophone; Alissa Jillson, flute; Justin Kochis, percussion; Zach Morgan, French horn; Josh Musser, percussion; Trevor Swigle, tenor saxophone; and Phoebe Wallace, clarinet.

Freshmen from Crossland Ninth Grade Center selected were: Reagan Hall, percussion; Drew Harris, bass clarinet; and Aaron Morgan, tuba.

Of this group, six – Chiappe, Jillson, Kochis, Zach Morgan, Swigle, Wallace – are advancing to the Area B tryouts scheduled for Jan. 12 in Midland. Two others qualifying for the area tryouts are Ashleen Atchue on flute and Shannon Rohde on contra bass clarinet.

The region clinic and concert will be held Jan. 18-19 at GHS.
