Class adopts animal shelter

December 1, 2012

A class at Granbury Middle School is expanding on an advisory class assignment by adopting the Granbury Friends for Animals shelter. The initiative has the students collecting supplies to support the no-kill animal shelter: bleach, liquid laundry soap, envelopes, postage stamps, kitty litter, and toys for cats and dogs. Students were motivated to help a community organization that took care of dogs and cats. Many of them have pets and could relate to the need to provide good homes for animals, they said. The students meet daily with band director Josh Hawks during the Purple Power Hour around lunchtime in the advisory class, which is designed for work on academic vocabulary so that students develop strong skills to succeed during and after school. The shelter is a nonprofit organization on Fall Creek Highway.
