The GHS Pirate Band took to the field at Pirate Stadium Thursday to preview their fall marching show for parents.
This year’s marching show “We the Living” will feature “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Gabriel Faure, “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” by Benjamin Britten, “The Farewell and Spectrum of the Sky” by Break the Reality, and some original material by William Pitt.
The band will have a chance to advance to the state marching contest year, as Class 4A schools are eligible in odd-numbered years. The marching ensemble will compete at two invitational competitions on Sept. 28 in Mansfield and Oct. 12 in Aledo before the UIL regional marching contest Oct. 19 in Burleson.
In addition, the drumline expects to participate at separate competitive events in Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Flower Mound again this year.
Eastin introduced drum majors Ashleen Atchue, Alissa Jillson, and Chase Rogers along with fellow band directors Tahlequah Kirk, John Morgan, Stephanie Bosch, Michelle Kahne and Alan Chrzanowski. An ice cream reception sponsored by the band boosters followed.
