Granbury High School and Crossland Ninth Grade Center theater students will present the musical “The Wizard of Oz” this fall.
Students in elementary and middle school have an opportunity to join the cast during an upcoming theater camp.
The musical will be presented during seven performances on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1-5 in the Bagby-McMahan Performing Arts Center.
Starring will be sophomore Kiersten Mathis as Dorothy. Other leading cast members are Aaron Barnes (Zeke/Cowardly Lion), Blake Bergeman (Hickory/Tin Woodsman), David Broberg (Professor/Wizard of Oz), Hailey Hart (Aunt Em/Glinda), Dakota Medlin (Hunk/Scarecrow), Gabe Whites (Uncle Henry) and Bailey Youngs (Miss Gultch/West Witch).
Also starring as citizens of Munchkinland are Sheridan Baze, Mandy Brenning, Robbie Chancellor, Baylee Davis, Brynn Deger, Christian Loper, Bryten Otting, Rachael Periello, Remington Watson and Zach Zagrocki.
Chorus members are Grace Arnold, Brigette Bean, Sharla Cantu, Kalyn Carpenter, Victoria Castaneda, Treasure Colladay, Hannah Dewey, Cameo Gonzales, Cailee Hastings, Maddie Higgins, Lindsey Holt, Juliette Hoverson, Kate Jennings, Kaitlyn Meinershagen, Lauren Mullican, Caitlyn Nettles, Skylar Schreiber, Cassandra Trevino, Katie Tull, Katee Westerman and Mercy Whites.
Granbury students who will be in grades 3-8 next school year have an opportunity to attend a week-long theater camp and be in the fall production.
The camp will be held Aug. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the fine arts area at GHS. Participants will learn songs and dances that will be featured in the production. The camp fee is $125, and the cost includes a T-shirt and a snack served each day.
Over the summer, the older students will begin rehearsals, which will continue through the fall semester until the performances.
GHS Theater Arts Director Phil Groeschel will be assisted by Crossland Theater Director Krista Alcorn Holman.
