Maxwell Call will attend high school in Spain this fall instead of seventh grade at Acton Middle School.
Maxwell will live with a family in Grado, Asturias (Northwest Spain). Although this will be Maxwell’s first time living abroad without his family, he has attended school or camp in a Spanish-speaking country almost every summer since he was 4 years old.
Last summer he attended an international camp in Spain, which was where the connections were made for this upcoming year. The camp teaches English and Spanish to the campers.
This past school year students from AMS and GMS worked together with seventh-grade students from Spain. Maxwell Call, Cole Stephens, Robert Faaborg, Abbey Thigpen, Courtney Gilley, Kelby Been, Sierra Mark and Hanna Meyers communicated with their pen pals. They also created digital projects to teach their new friends about themselves and where they live.
As part of this exchange, Maria, an eighth-grader from Spain, has been staying with the Calls for the summer. To have an “American experience” she attended Camp El Tesoro, traveled to the Grand Canyon and camped in Colorado. Maxwell will live with Maria’s family in Spain. Maria and Maxwell will travel together to Spain before the new school year begins.
