Brookshire Brothers to buy David’s

February 8, 2014

Brookshire Brothers has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of David’s Supermarkets. Officials are not announcing details until the transaction is complete.

David’s is a 25-store chain located in North Central Texas and owned by the Waldrip family with Hood County locations in Thorp Spring, Acton and Pecan Plantation.

“We feel like these family-owned stores align with our core value that we are a celebration of family and community,” said Jerry Johnson, president and CEO of Brookshire Brothers. “As a 100 percent employee-owned company, this transaction also presents opportunities for the employees of David’s.”

The Brookshire’s store in Granbury is operated by a different company, Brookshire Grocery Company, a Tyler-based regional food chain.

Founded in 1921, Brookshire Brothers has 123 retail outlets including grocery stores, convenience stores, free-standing pharmacy, tobacco and gas locations with two new stores planned for 2014.
